Mont Adventure Equipment

Mont Adventure Equipment Australia is based in Canberra and has over 25 years of design and manufacturing experience. They are a “family run company that manufactures high quality outdoor soft wear (clothing, packs, tents and sleeping bags)”. “We now enjoy a reputation for innovative design and dependability achieved through an ongoing commitment to function, quality and performance”.

My summary

Mont produces good and robust gear. I have various items from Mont, and the overpants in particular have far outlasted a similar pair from another Australian company. But it does not seem to be at all interested in issues of sustainability and lower impact. There is no information that I can find about environmental initiatives or working conditions on their website and the company has not responded to requests for information. I hesitate to do a profile without much info, but will happily update this posting if extra details come to hand.

information on resources used – recycled materials, use of renewable materials, etc

There is detailed information available on the technical features of the fabrics used in their products here.

However there is no information available on any attempts to use lower impact materials in their equipment.

  • energy consumption & carbon dioxide emissions
  • distance travelled

As with most other Australian based outdoor companies, most, if not all of their equipment is now made offshore. According to one source of information “Mont still make short order and one offs in the factory here in Canberra”. As I understand things, Mont used to make gear in Fiji, now in China.

  • waste generated
  • water consumption
  • working conditions

no information

other environmental claims or benefits

Mont provides sponsorship to adventurers

They have a sponsored climber, Jay Reilly, who does reviews of their gear.
