Timberlands joins boycott of Alberta oilsands fuels

Image: WikipediaOutdoor clothing company Timberlands has joined a growing number of US-based companies that are intending to boycott fuel produced from oilsands in Alberta in Canada.

The Athabasca oil sands (also known as the Athabasca tar sands) are large deposits of bitumen, or extremely heavy crude oil, located in northeastern Alberta. Apart from a range of direct impacts on land and water from mining operations, fuel made from oilsands produce carbon dioxide emissions which are 20% higher than average emissions from oil.

You can find background information on the boycott here.
